Kawi’s Story

Kawi Moto came into this world January 20, 2011.  His name is shortened from Kawasaki Motorcycles : ) We met him a week after he was born and saw him every 2 weeks until he was able to come home at 6 weeks old.  He is such an awesome puppy, so cute, sweet and smart! On his 4 month old birthday he had a car accident. He tumbled out of the car window, driving 45 mph down the road.  Kawis front paws were on the window ledge, as he looked out the half open window. His back paw must of slipped and hit the window down button and he took a spill out. After some road rash and a few x rays our regular vet put a soft cast on his back right leg, and sent us to a specialist.  The growth plate in his leg was fractured.  Once in surgery, the vet spent over an hour and could not pin or screw into it due to the soft bone and 2 more fractures not seen in the first x ray.  It was either him be put to sleep or amputation.  Matt (Kawis daddy and my amazing boyfriend) and I knew NOTHING really nothing at all about amputation, but the Dr. said he would have full recovery on 3 legs, and he wouldn’t be in any pain after it was healed. Confused and crying, Matt and I  decided amputation was the right choice for our little guy.  We both felt so bad for the little guy. We couldn’t imagine not having this beautiful boy around and to have to put him to sleep. If only we had found all this wonderful information at that moment!!  As soon as we could we got online and researched the great outcomes of all the surgeries!! Thats how our story begins : )
